A Tribute to Tony
My only son, Tony, was born Down Syndrome and a bad heart. Both sides of the
family rejected him and I kept him at home and cared for him the 27 years he
lived. I worked full time and had 3 daughters; his father couldn't love him
in any way so we divorced. When Downs children are born, there's no way to
tell how much they can learn; it's a waiting game to see. Tony was able to
walk, talk, dress himself, take care of himself, entertain himself, loved
movies (especially Blazing Saddles and Wizard of Oz) and shopping, theme parks
like King's Island, Batman, Spiderman, Star Wars movies, Superman & McDonald's
Big Macs. Eventually his heart gave out and he died peacefully in his sleep
in 1985. I still love and miss him everyday and treasure the gift I was given
to have him in my life. He enriched my life beyond words and it's sad that
his family never gave him a chance.
