posterboard

pictures cut from magazines

buttons

index cards

brown bag

Learning Skills:

phonics, reading readiness, letter recognition Cut the posterboard into 6 in x 8 in rectangles. With a marker, divide it into a 3x3 or 4x4 square board. Have your child select a the magazine clipping for each square on their board. Cut each index card in half, and write a letter of the alphabet on each. Place all letters into a brown bag. Shake the bag, and select a letter at random. Have your child look for a picture on his/her board that starts with this letter/sound and place a button on it when found. Once your child has a complete horizontal, vertical or diagonal row, they make a 'bingo'!

Harvesting and Using Summer Squash

Summer squash is one of my favorite vegetables. I love the yellow summer squash in particular. They should be harvested while still tender, when they have a "glossy" appearance and are still small. You will most likely need to harvest daily once they start to appear.
