How To Create Keepsake Cookbooks

Meals and Memories by Kathy Steligo I met Kathy Steligo on one of my cookbook lists. It didn't take us long to realize we both loved the rich history and memories associated with cooking and the kitchen. She sent me a copy of her book "Meals and Memories: How to Create Keepsake Cookbooks" and I loved it! She tells us how to plan, create and even sell our own family cookbook. You can learn how to create a simple keepsake to be handed down in your family, or a more elaborate book that may be used for fundraising. The possibilities are endless! My Mom, Eileen, and I trade recipes and have fun in the kitchen. I have so many good memories associated with cooking. Kathy has inspired me to start my own keepsake cookbook, so my Mom and I won't lose those memories.

You'll learn to:

  • Design the look of your cookbook
  • Collect and format recipes (including how to collect recipes from family members and other contributors)
  • Include and modify antique recipes
  • Get inspired and write stories and memories about your favorite recipes
  • Add pizzazz to your pages with photos, drawings, doodles, and instant images
  • Create a table of contents
  • Develop keepsake cookbooks as profitable fundraisers
  • Get your children involved
  • And much, much more

Kathy Shares a Memory:

My dad loved simple, good-tasting food. And although he didn't cook frequently, his limited cooking repetoire produced some of my favorite foods and memories: crisp Southern-fried chicken, wonderful potato salad full of hard-boiled eggs (pre-cholesterol days), and meatballs. He was crazy for meatballs and considered spaghetti undressed without them! Whenever he visited, I would come home to find every dish and pan full of meatballs. My favorite memory of him cooking was our birthday breakfasts. He would write our names perfectly in pancake batter, and serve them up to us with butter and syrup. I've tried this many times myself, and have never been able to duplicate it!

Harvesting and Using Summer Squash

Summer squash is one of my favorite vegetables. I love the yellow summer squash in particular. They should be harvested while still tender, when they have a "glossy" appearance and are still small. You will most likely need to harvest daily once they start to appear.
