HOME & HEARTH: FATHER'S DAY
This is the last week I will be publishing a newsletter in
June. We are going on vacation and then for a visit
with my family for my parents' 50th anniversary. We'll
be celebrating Father's Day while we are camping, so
I wanted to share a few ideas this week.
HEALTHY GIFT BASKET
Is Dad trying to shape up this summer? Assemble a gift
basket for him that will encourage him, and give him the
tools he needs. Sunscreen is SO important. Skin cancer
is a reality for many people and protecting each other
from the sun's rays is a good thing:
A few high energy protein bars
2-3 sports drinks
water/sweat proof sunscreen
lip balm with sunscreen
a water bottle
shower gel (can't forget that)
Optional: portable CD Player, a hand weight, shorts
or t-shirt (roll these up in the basket).
A FISHERMAN'S BASKET
Buy one of those Styrofoam bait coolers
to use instead of a basket and fill it with:
-A map of your county or state-you can find
them in softcover and they will have lakes
marked along with boat ramps etc.
-small tape measure
-various sizes of hooks
-a pair of small/medium needle nose pliers
-small flashlight (when he stays too late!)
-reusable split shots
-various size bobbers
MOVIE BASKET
Put this in a big popcorn/snack bowl:
-DVDs
-gift certificate from your favorite rental place
-microwave popcorn
-his favorite peanuts or other nuts
-new remote-if the remote is getting beat up-
they have some great universal remotes for
about $10.00-a little more for one that lights up!
-Pledges from the kids for fun things like:
We will be quiet during the movie
We will let you pick the show AND not complain
We will bring you snacks during the movie
GRILLING BASKET
Instead of a basket if you wish, buy a coated
grill "bowl"-it's used for veggies or shrimp on
the grill. Usually fairly easy to find either by the
grilling tools or the pan section.
-a small bag of hickory or mesquite chips
-several packets of marinade mixes
-a big jar of Lawry's Seasoning Salt or other seasonings
-wooden or stainless steel kabob sticks
-a good brush for putting on sauce
-a sports bottle (works great for basting)
-new wire bristle brush to clean grill
These baskets are so much fun to put together.
If you want to let the kids get crazy, just take them
to the dollar store and let them pick out stuff for
dad with a plastic basket organizer. They'll come
up with all kinds of creative things!
