HODGE PODGE DAY

Today I have a couple of tips and a recipe for Brandied Fruit/Friendship Cake Starter. I'm am always asked for variations of this recipe!

BUGGY WINDOWS
I thought I would tell you of a tip someone passed on to me about getting bug juice off the front of you car. You can take a dryer softener sheet and wet it and rub on the front of the car and the bug juice will come right. You may have to use more than one dryer sheet. ~Shirley

BREAD PUDDING
I recently tried this pudding at a family reunion. (Cocoa Bread Pudding- June 1 newsletter) It was wonderful. Just a small variation was a coconut pecan sauce she had along side for topping instead of whipped cream. It was just like the frosting, but thinner-adding a bit more milk to the icing recipe would do it. ~Pam

BRANDIED FRUIT & FRIENDSHIP CAKE
I am making Brandied Fruit for the Friendship Cake with less of everything. ~Rose

Mix in a gallon jar, stir every day--
1 cup of sugar
8 oz. chunk pineapple, drain.
2 tablespoons of any alcoholic beverage.*
In 2 weeks add--
1 cup of sugar
8 oz. Maraschino Cherries, drain.
2 tablespoons alcoholic beverage
Stir every day.
In 2 more weeks add---
1 cup of sugar
8 oz. sliced peaches, drained.
2 tablespoons alcoholic beverage
Stir every day.

After 2 MORE weeks separate the fruit from the liquid. This liquid is your starter and the fruit can be used for cake or on top of ice cream. Do not store juice in the refrigerator. Starter is good at room temperature for 30 days, must be started again on the 31st day. Keep the fruit at room temperature.

* I used some Strawberry Wine.

CAKE RECIPE
1 box of Pineapple Cake Mix*
1 box instant Pineapple Pudding
4 eggs

Mix together (batter will be thick) Add 1 cup chopped nuts and 1 1/2 cups of the Brandied Fruit. Use an oiled and floured Bundt pan or spray with cooking spray. Bake at 325 degrees F. for 1 hour or until done. Freezes well.

*Spice, Orange and Cherry Cake Mix can Be used.
