Fun and Friendly Halloween Recipes!
Halloween is friendly fun and fun at our house. We stay
away from gross and scary but still have a great time
with the kids each year. We mix harvest decorations in
with smiling pumpkins and friendly scarecrows. It's fun
to come up with creative food. This week I'm including
a extra recipe issue to give you a couple of treats:
I usually prefer homemade cookie dough, but when it's on sale, it's fun to use the packages of sugar cookie mix or the refrigerated dough and make cookie pizzas. This one is especially easy and fun! Silly Face Cookie PizzaIngredients:1 roll refrigerated cookie dough or one envelope dry mix Candy Corn 1 cup powdered sugar 1 tablespoon milk 1 tablespoon butter, softened food coloring Heat oven to 350 degrees. If you are using the dry mix, prepare according to direction. Press the dough into a round pizza pan. Mix the sugar, milk and butter to make a frosting. Color it as desired for eyes and hair of your cookie face. Use the candy corn to make a mouth and a nose before baking. Bake the cookie about 15 minutes until it's done, but only slightly golden. Cool completely. Using the frosting, create the hair and eyes to your cookie face. You can substitute premade frosting in flavors. For neat party treat, make these into smaller faces by shaping the dough into circles and baking, then allow the kids to make their own hair and eyes. Baker's Broomstick BrowniesIngredients:4 squares unsweetened baking chocolate 3/4 cup butter or margarine 2 cups granulated sugar 4 eggs 1 cup flour 2 1/2 cups cold milk 2 pkg. 4-serving size Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding Yellow and red food colorings Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom and sides of 13X9 inch pan. Microwave chocolate and butter in large microwavable bowl on high for 1 minute, stir and cook 1 more minute. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Stir sugar into chocolate. Mix in eggs. Blend in flour and spread dough in pan. Bake 30-35 minutes. Remove from oven. Immediately poke holes through to the bottom of the brownies-1 inch apart with handle of wooden spoon. Pour cold milk into a large bowl. Add pudding mixes. Beat with whisk for 1 minute. Stir in 2 drops yellow and 4 drops red food coloring, mixing until it becomes orange. Quickly pour 1/2 of mixture into brownie holes. Let the remaining pudding stand to thicken slightly. After it has thickened, swirl over the brownies. Top with whipped topping and/or orange and black sprinkles. Chill for one 1 hour. Makes 24 brownies. Caren, a friend and subscriber, shared this simple method of decorating her fall themed cookies: These do look pretty in a fall basket and I have used the baskets as hostess gifts.
