JOHN'S FAVORITE ICE CREAM

1 quart milk
1 quart half & half
4 eggs
2 tablespoons flour
3 cups sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2 pint whipping cream

Scald milk and half & half. Beat eggs til thick and yellow. Add sugar and flour to eggs and mix well. Pour into hot milk mixture stirring constantly and continue cooking on low heat til it coats a spoon. Remove from heat. Add vanilla. Cool and stir in slightly whipped cream. Add milk to desired depth of freezer container. Freeze according to freezer manufacturer instructions

DIRT CAKE

1 20 oz pkg chocolate sandwich cookies with creme filling
1 stick butter, softened
1 8 oz pkg creme cheese
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 3-oz pkgs instant vanilla pudding mix
6 cups cold milk
1 12 oz container whipped topping
20 gummy worms (optional)
plastic flowers (optional)

Mix pudding mixes and milk and set aside. Crush cookies and set aside. Mix butter, creme cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and whipped topping. In a foil lined flower pot, layer 1/3 of the cookie crumbs, 1/2 of the creme cheese mixture, and 1/2 of the pudding. Repeat layers, ending with cookie crumbs. This often shows up at Family Reunion. We have been known to use a little shovel, (new of course, and kept for this purpose), add an artificial flower, and gummy worms placed on top of the cookie crumbs. Sometimes we poke one end of some of the worms down in the "dirt", leave some of them hanging on the side of the flower pot, etc. like they are crawling around. It gets your attention ! ! !
