Is this the same cau from FC and MM? Just wondered, I ventured here too; same cat lover from both, nice to see you if it is you and nice to "meet" you if it's someone different!

I have asthma too so even though I do not like getting the flu shots, my doctor tells me for years the flu would be much worse for me. So I get it every year. Not thrilled with getting the swine flu one either with so much going on about it, but same story there too so will probably be getting it as soon as it is available.
Wierd thing is I always have "effects" from the flu shots. Doctor said I really can't get "sick" from it,. but because of my health issues it does affect me in sorts. Usually have cough, runny nose, sneezing, etc, about a week after the shots. But pneumonia really gets me bad and I've had several bouts with it so if I can avoid that I guess the flu shots are worth it. I don't have medical insurance(becuase of pre existing conditions) so I have to try and do "extra" whenever I can to avoid illnesses.

Both my dh and myself get annual flu shots and have never had a bit of trouble from them. We're aged 70 and 65 and are doing fine.

I have only had the flu 2 times in my old life. Once in the 50's I had the Asian flu and then in the early 90's I had the regular flu. I had a swine flu shot in 1970's when Ford was the President. I had no problems then but they say older people don't have to worry because our immune system is better than the younger people.

My DH and I too got a flu shot back in the early 70's and I was thinking it was for a swine flu, but several people have told me oh no never been a swine flu before. I know this one is probably a different one than back then. Well anyway I guess DH and I are going to be getting it; we already had our regular yearly flu shot. DH gets his at the clinic we go to because it takes medicare, I get mine at the health dept because I don't have insurance; the clinic charges $25 and the health dept only charges $15.

Not to diminish the seriousness of this thread, one of our choir member's wife wanted her DH to kiss him after the warning about the human contact with greeting one another in church was mentioned. Her DH called it the "Whine 'flu' " (He's always cracking jokes of some sort!)

I just read an article about the Swine 'flu' and the use of onions. since I can't reprint it here, I'll have to wait 'til Monday. Briefly, it stated that you should busy some onions, cut 1 or 2 up, place them in several dishes in different locations a room and the onions will absorb the spores in the air. It won't hurt to try it!

I decided against getting the H1N1 shot. Too many questions. Still debating the reg flu shot. Never got it growing up.

A lady at church had her son get the nasal spray type. Got sick as a dog. So I don't know.

As a nurse working in the Intensive Care Unit of a very busy hospital I have seen first hand what H1N1 has done here in winter.

I always get the flu shot and my family and I will also be getting H1N1 shot.

It is a personal thing but with the norther hemisphere heading into winter I would seriously think about it.
Here in Australia we are heading into summer but the threat is still very serious.

How about detainees at Gitmo getting the vaccine while pregnant women, kids, and seniors go without?

Too much.

Not getting any shots over here.
I'm not sure about the H1N1 shot anyway. I do believe the media is freaking people out. Wonder how the H1N1 talk is overseas.

I think it is a ploy to get health care passed also. There isn't even a Surgeon General to oversee things like this.

I got both kinds of flu shots. My daughter is so ill from the swine flu, she is 34 years old. She has bronchitis and they think it may be pneumonia. She has been ill for over a month with the swine flu. She had to go to ER one night. She has had a breathing treatment, an asthma inhaler, now antibiotics and prednisone. All from having swine flu.
I am a bit leary of the swine flu vaccine, but I got it anyway. I have diabetes and mild asthma. All I can do is eat well, stay away from people until my shot kicks in, and take vitamins. I am resting more, too, now that fall is here. Glad canning season is basically over other than people wanting to can apples, make some jellies, and can meats and fish. Hunting season has people canning wild game.

Well today was my lucky day. My asthma doctor told me that today was the first day they had both flu vaccines in stock at the same time. So since I had a regular appointment I got both. Since there has been a shortage they're being kind of picky on who gets the H1N1 shot.

My DH probably won't get either flu shot since he usually doesn't get the regular one, and he was born before 1950 and has healthy lungs.

Linda Lou, that was wise that you got the vaccine. I've heard that one knows that (s)he has the H1N1 virus if one's breathing is affected. Ditto for you, Gayla; especially since you got both at the same time.

From what I heard, the pharmaceutical companies were producing the H1N1 vaccine with the additive first and then stopped mid-stream to produce the vaccine without the additive for pregnant women. I really believe that the pharmaceutical companies reacted rather than responded and they've made a fortune off of this!

I felt I had to do something since I saw what it did to my basically healthy daughter. She has nothing other than some seasonal allergies, but no other health issues. It really frightened me to see her so ill.
My brother is a missionary who goes to the Ukraine, sometimes Indonesia, India, and the Phillipines. There is a terrible epidemic of the swine flu as well as pnuemonia in Ukraine. Very serious. I have heard reports of the govt. imposing martial law to keep people in quarantine in Ukraine. Some are saying it is pnuemonic plague, not just pneumonia. I have no concrete facts as to that part. My brother is currently home here in the USA. He has friends he normally travels with in Ukraine right now. They have been keeping us posted the best they can.
