Red face Cysts on small dog

Marchon is a Pug/Corgie cross who's 13 years old. Over the last year he's developed large cysts just under his skin. They're non-cancerous and don't give him pain or itching but they are tender and I'm the only one he allows to touch them. We had the first one surgically removed which involved shaving a large porting of his leg side and chest. There's no more money for another operation and the vet says it's not necessary.

The problem is that now he's developing tiny red spots. About the size of a pin prick and mostly around his genetials and stomach.

Does anyone have experience or know what this might be?

I'm not sure, but could he be having some kind of reaction to flea bites?? Are you using any kind of chemical where he lays or sleeps?? (Fabreeze on or near his bed?? or something like that??) Is he itching or not having any reaction to the spots?? I've never seen something like this with my dogs so I'm just throwing some ideas out there. If you can't identify the source of the spots you should probably call your vet. It's probably nothing serious, but with your dog being 13 you want to take extra care.

Hope everything works out.

I'am not a vet either but has your dog been tested for any parasites? they can have skin reaction. My cat had fleas had lots of scabs because of alergic reaction to the fleas. Also what food do you give him. check that out because theres always some kind of recal. I know of someones whos dog died from the dog food they were eating..If this vet doesn't have answer try another opinion...gee thats all I can come up with . Best wishes

I've seen these on several old dogs. They are usually benign. Dogs as general rule, can get age spots (don't know what else to call them). Provided the spots are not spreading rapidly, which may be a sign of an allergic reaction to something, our rule about lumps and bumps and such is this; if they grow rapidly, cause pain and the dog terrorizes them, then have them removed (can be cauterized). BTW, I've been a Vet Tech for 13 yrs. Hope this helps,
Blessings,
Tami

My dog has had those types of lumps however recently has gotten about 4 wart looking bumps that actually are almost black now...they kind of have a crust to them. I have wondering if it is not the kibbles and bites.... she has recently been eating that brand.?????

I was and am concerned also as to what they are....she is 11 and maybe I should not give her that food just in case, if they keep coming then she must go to the vet.

Thank you for the info.

Our dog Maggie has fatty tumors over her stomach and under her front leg. They are benign and do not interfere with movement so they don't recommend removing them.
The red dots are probably flea bites.

Smile Wow, thanks for all in in-put

I hadn't realized there were so many folks pets with such a broad range of lumps, bumps and such.

As far as I know any kind of bump that crusts must be seen by the vet as soon as can be arranged as they may be a form of parasitic contagin. Being no expert I would be as concerned as you are.

Fatty lumps have been said to be almost normal (by my vet) and if they don't impede my pet to simply check them weekly to see that they don't change.

Liquid filled cysts are mostly the same unless they change color or suddenly become hard.

Again, from my vet, flea bites ususally have an associated bump and tend to be itchy. I'm looking into the allergic reactions issue as we know our little boy has a deathly reaction to Day Lillies, especially Star Gazer varities.

Knowing how much we all love our furry family I appreciate the information you all have been willing to share and hope to hear how all the various questions get answered. I will keep you all posted about how our beloved dog progresses. I have been checking the red spots; no swelling, itching or changes in size or location that I can see so far. His appetite and playfullness are good and he seems to be happy.

Cyst is gone

Last night I was giving our beloved dog a scratching as a way of checking out his general skin health and discovered that the cyst under his front leg is now gone. The area is flat and the ribs can be detected. The skin is smooth and healthy with no indication of a rupture or break of the skin. He gave no reaction of discomfort or pain so it seems to have resolved it'self. I'll keep an eye on the location as well a watching for any other cysts that may develop but for now I feel he's all right.

May all you beloved furry family remain healthy.

One of my sons dogs has the little red spots and had one for quite awhile and all of a sudden it grew. They took him to the vet and it turned out to be what they commonly call "old dog warts". They had it removed and it was okay, but now know what it was.
