I just use a thin coat of regular shortening, but I'm sure you could use any of these others. The purpose is to keep the mixture from sticking to the jars, so I'd use which ever one I normally use and see how it goes. The other ladies may use something different than shortening and can let you know how theirs turned out. Gayle

    Jar Mixes

    Jar Dreamsicle Cookie Mix

    Serving Size: 30

    1/2 cup Tang
    3/4 cup white sugar
    1-1/2 cups vanilla baking chips
    1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. baking powder

1.) Combine the flour with the baking soda and baking powder.
2.) Starting with the Tang, then sugar, vanilla chips and ending with the flour mixture, layer ingredients in order in a 1 quart wide mouth canning jar. Use the bottom of a small clean juice glass and press each layer firmly in place. It will be a tight fit.
3.) Use scissors to cut a 9 " diameter circle from calico. Place over lid and secure with a rubber band. Tie on a raffia or ribbon bow to cover rubber band.
4.) Label and store in a cool dry place away from a heat source so condensation and clumping does not occur.
5.) Attach this recipe to the jar:

    DREAMSICLE COOKIES

    1.) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. (190 degrees C.)
2.) Empty contents into a large mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 egg slightly beaten and teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until completely blended.
3.) Roll heaping tablespoonfuls into balls. Place 2 inches apart on a lightly greased baking sheet.
4.) Bake at 375 degrees F. (190 degrees C.) for 12 to 14 minutes or until tops are very lightly browned. Cool for 5 minutes on the sheet then remove cookies to wire racks to cool completely.
    Yield: 2-1/2 dozen.

NOTE: These make wonderful gifts to give any time of year and also for wedding favours, hostess gifts, baby showers or take to a cookie exchange and make sure to bake some up so people know what they taste like.
