    Thumbs up An Old-fashioned Thanksgiving

    An old-fashioned Thanksgiving
    By Louisa May Alcott
    Illus by Michael McCurdy
    $5.95 at Amazon

In the 1820's the Bassett family is preparing their Thanksgiving feast. Everyone is working hard and all are anxious to eat the delicious meal. When a stranger arrives to tell Mrs. Bassett that her ailing mother is getting worse, Mr. and Mrs. Bassett decide to visit her instead of finishing dinner.

The oldest children are left in charge and decide to go ahead
and make dinner themselves. Despite all of their efforts most
of the meal is not edible. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett return with
other relatives just in time to share in the not so delicious feast, but all are very happy to be together.

The Bassett's did not have much money, but they had more
than enough "love and land" to get them through the hard times.
