Now you should all get a kick out of this regarding the 15 minutes of fame. Can you believe what the media focused on? I made one very off the cuff comment when they were asking me about the conditions we were subjected to in the locked room at the airport. Keep in mind that 17 years ago the "airport" was quite primitive. I was saying how hot it was, no air conditioning and everyone knows not to drink the water, the one toilet was disgusting and "there wasn't even any toilet paper". Well that comment about the toilet paper was on the front page of every paper - talk about embarressed! But even worse people (who obviously had no lives) were writing into the newspapers for weeks after that (the letters were published) making really rude comments about what I said regarding toilet paper. Well everyone still gets a good laugh about it now - just call me Mrs Sorbent.

    Lizzy

I had a little time on my hands this afternoon and was reading this post. I'm curious... what happens in-between?

    Anxious to find out,

I've just caught up with the thread too and that is my question as well. Give me time for my ribs to stop aching before you make me laugh again though.

Lizzy, how have I ever missed this thread. I love your honeymoon story! I was working at Qantas in those days and fully remember that silly journo and the resultant furore! You must tell me .... was it Qantas or Garuda. Sounds very Garuda to me (although I still wouldn't put that passed Qantas management..a very low act indeed). But what a result. Hamilton Island....good old Gordy hey!
Ok .... seems to be a few years missing and maybe just as many giggles too if I'm not wrong. Keep going.

Garuda - of course! The honeymoon turned out pretty good really, after the initial bungle! Another funny thing related to this was that my Mum and her gf were driving back to Brisbane from Sydney after our wedding (my Dad had flown back). They stopped in a small town for lunch at the local pub and were sitting at the counter having their meal when she looked up at the TV and saw me on it - she thought she was hallucinating. The sound on the TV wasn't turned up so she had no idea why I was on there and the Barman looked at her like she was deranged when she started shouting at him "Turn the TV up - that's my daughter on there".

OK I will continue with the in between story. "Another brush with fame" - When I was 13/14 ABBA came to Australia - now I really wasn't a big ABBA fan but my gf's father worked with disabled children and had been given a lot of free tickets to attend the concert and he needed help with some of the kids in wheelchairs so we volunteered to assist. When we got to the concert (outdoor concert) we had been directed to the front row area. It started to rain and although we got drenched it turned out to be a fun night. About 12 months later the ABBA movie was released and suddenly we'd be walking along the street and people would stop us and say "Hey I saw you in the ABBA movie". We had no idea what they were on about but after this had happened for the umpteenth time, we went to the movie and checked it out. Sure enough there we were soaking wet at the concert waving our arms and singing along. Dam that cameraman!! Of course we were terribly embarrassed by the whole thing especially being caught at an ABBA concert - just NOT cool!!

And even now every few years they play that movie and footage of their Australian concert on TV and there we are again - my kids think its pretty cool. In case you ever see it I'm the drowned rat waving the long white scarf back and forth!

Lizzy you are quite the celebrity! I for one liked ABBA but I am not sure if I would want to be caught on camera soaking wet (or even dry for that matter)LOL

    I really enjoy your stories!
