Help, my husbands gone Mosaic mad!

My dd had to do a craft project for school at the end of last year on the Aztecs. She decided to make a mosaic of the Aztec sun god. My dh cut a circle from some ply and we asked a local tile shop for some broken tiles which they seemed glad to get rid of. We also used some glass beads. It turned out very well and she got great marks.

Trouble is, since then my dh's turn into the Mosaic King. Nothing is sacred - if it's sitting there, he mosaics it. Plant pots, garden animals, plant stakes, tables, frames etc. I got home the other day and he'd mosaiced the bird bath. Now, I wasn't happy about this as he put all shiny glass beads in the bottom and now the birds are too scared to use it. I heard him tell my ds not to worry that he'd chipped the plate, "I'll use it in my mosaic".

A couple of years ago it was cutlery wind chimes (I had to hide grandmas silver), now mosaic (now's the time for me to resurrect the plastic plates).

I've seen him looking at me strangely lately - sort of sizing me up so now I'm too scared to sit in one place for too long - he just might mosaic me!

LMBO...That is to funny Liz. Heather is into that too..every one here likes it, but to be honest...I think it's so ugly. They are trying to talk me into having the stepping stones done like that...I THINK NOT..but we all know sooner or later I am going to have to bend some where...It's pretty big here in Montana, every where I look I see it...I don't know what kind of help I could give you..Heather paid big bucks for this vase, and it's the ugliest thing I have ever seen...but she thinks it's all that. LOL...good luck!!! Hide all the good china!

Yep, it's not really my cup of tea either. I've drawn the line at him displaying any of it inside and am hoping once the bug wears off I can sort of slowly bury the pieces in the garden.

It's real big here Liz...and it seems every one and his brother wants to do it. A good friend of mine took a table she had and did it , every one thought it was so beautiful, except me...and she is a good enough friend that I could say that to her...Steve can't believe I don't like it...what I am going to lie about mosaic? Please, LOL Now don't sit to close to hubby because I would miss you.. At least he's home, that's what I always say about Steve and his fiddling around the house/yard...Ya, it's better..

    Talking

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

It's a man thing Liz...they get into "modes" and
can't let go. The trick is to find something YOU like
and make him think it's HIS idea. BAHAHAHAHAH

I'm sorry, I just can't get this picture out of my
head of him sitting around stewing about what
he can "break" next to use in a mosiac!

    too funny!!

    Lizzy,

My sister has this mirror she paid "big big big bucks" for that they had mosaiced with china in her colors for her tea company. It is really big right now - put him to work @ craft fairs. Ha!Ha!Ha!

GF he could be worse . . . . . . what if he was into those gawdy plastic lawn ornaments (dressed in clothes) or worse the dreaded gnome! Hey at least he has hobbies. He sounds just darling but of course I can say that because I do not have to live with the the mosaic trail he has left for you. . . . . . lol.

Brenda has the right idea - find something you want & make it his idea. Then you will get all you need.

But hey . . . . . I mosaic too so I should not be disparaging him. My theory is if alittle is good alot is better so I can relate. I only have myself to blame when I look around & have mosaiced myself into a corner & not a surface isn't covered with tile or china or beads. Still, it could be worse, I'm not sure how but it could be . . . . . lol

Well Candy he has your theory too - a LOT is certainly better. Thankfully the birds (timidly) are returning to the bird bath. Of this I am thankful - it is so dry here at the moment that we have to help the wildlife all we can.

So I'm trying to encourage him into other craft areas - I'd like some more bird houses so I showed him a photo of Linas bird house. You know what he said "that would look real nice mosaiced" - AAGGHH! Hide it Lina.

    mosaic bird house

    Lizzy,

My gf got a mosaiced birdhouse as a gift one christmas & she hung it come spring. After the first couple of rains it all fell apart . . . FYI. True Story! I am sure that will not discourage him but hey you never know. You have got to get us some pictures pleaseeeeee!

Here is a cool idea I just know he will love. . . . lol

Take an old drawer from a dresser. On the bottom of the drawer put those round post tops (the kind that can go on a fence post) for feet or any thing you want for feet. Cut a plywood piece bigger than the drawer & hinge it to the top of the drawer so it will open. Cover the plywood with batting & a colorful material & you have an instant storage box for your crafts books etc & extra seating if he does a good job. Hey he can make a couple & then we will try to find him a new trade.

Thanks Candy - great idea and extra storage - who couldn't use that? Will try to get him interested (hopefully he won't think to mosaic it). lol.

Denirae, I've shown him those wine glass candle holders for the garden you posted and he's showing some interest - cross your fingers!
