My Thoughts and Feelings Collage

My Thoughts and Feelings Collage

By Brenda Hyde

With the world changing, and so much violence on television and in the headlines it's important to find activities and family projects that will help our children express their feelings. This is also a wonderful thing to do after a loss in the family or another type of crisis.

You will need current newspapers, as well as older magazines, poster board, glue, scissors and dark colored markers.

Have your children cut headlines and pictures from newspapers and magazines about current events or anything related to how they may be feelings. Explain that you want them to look for things that express how they feel inside. You may encourage them to look for colored pictures in old magazines that show how they feel about America for instance. An example might be photos of parks, famous places, or even people.

Once they have a grouping of things picked out, have them arrange them on a piece of poster board and glue them in place. With a dark marker they can write their feelings inbetween the pictures. These collages can serve as family discussion tools or simply as a way for kids to express their feelings.
