Tea Cup CozyThere’s nothing better on a brisk Spring afternoon than a cup of steaming tea or coffee and a little bite! This old fashioned tea cup cozy is perfect solution to keep your tea warm and heart warmer still. Our crochet pattern is based on an older vintage version, out of copyright. 

It’s a fun, easy pattern to work up and can be done quite quickly. You’ll enjoy crocheting and sharing this sweet little cozy at your next tea party or luncheon. Or create a matching set to give as a gift to someone special who loves tea as much as we do at Old Fashioned Living!

 

Size: This pattern fits a standard size tea cup or older style coffee mug. (See images.) 

Difficulty: Easy 

Materials:

Cotton or 4 ply worsted yarn, (I used Lily Sugar’n Cream.)

US Hook size H/5.00mm

 

Gauge: Not important in this pattern.

 

Key:

CH = chain

SC = single crochet

HDC = half double crochet

DC = double crochet

SL ST = slip stitch

CC = change color

Instructions:

Ch 5, join with sl st to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 17 dc in ring, join with sl st in top of ch-3 (18 dc).

Rnd 2: * Ch 5, sl st in next dc, rep from * around (18 lps) Fasten off.

Rnd 3: Join thread to any ch 5 lp, make 3 sc in same lp, * ch 2, sk next lp, 3 sc in next lp, rep from * around, ch 2, join with sl st to 1st sc.

Rnd 4: Make sc in same st, continue making sc in each sc with 2 sc over each ch 2 to end of rnd, join with sl st. Fasten off.

Rnd 5: Join yarn in bk lp of any sc in Rnd 4. Work in bk lps for Rnd 5 only. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in same sp (shell made), sk 4 sc, make a shell in next sc * (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), rep from * around, sl st in top of ch 3, sl st in next dc, sl st in ch-l sp (9 shells).

Rnd 6: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), make 1 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in ch 1 sp of prev rnd, * (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next ch 1 sp, rep from * around, join.

Rnd 7: Ch 3, make 2 dc in same sp, (ch 1 sp of prev rnd), * 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, rep from * around. Do not join, fasten off.

Rnd 8: Ch 15, sl st in top of ch 3 of last rnd, sc in each dc, ch 15, fasten off. Weave ends.
